Making it all up as we go along!

Hello! My name is Jeff Andersen, and I am the Artistic Director of Blackout Theatre.  I want to start off by wishing everyone a very happy holiday season!  Whether your celebration is religious, cultural, or “damn it’s cold, I just want an excuse to hang out with people, eat good food, and drink some Tractor beer,” I hope it’s incredibly enjoyable.

I love this time of year in Albuquerque. Christmas lights, luminarias, cool events. You know they’re putting up an ice skating rink in Civic Plaza, right? Seriously, check it out: http://tinyurl.com/qx8vknq .  Also, you know Blackout is doing an Improvised Christmas Carol, right? Seriously, check it out: http://www.blackouttheatre.com/.

We are so excited for this show for a couple of reasons. As some of you may remember, several years ago Blackout did our own adaptation of A Christmas Carol.

As you can see, that show involved a lot of puppetry. It also had live music played by the actors, media arts built in, and a very touching and poignant message.

This year, we’re going for something a little bit different. Out improvised version will still have a “message.” Although, what that message is will largely depend on your suggestions as the audience. Will Scrooge learn to treat everyone with kindness or will he learn that ripping people off is the way to go? Will he learn that money isn’t the most important thing in the world or will he learn that he should open a casino in Vegas to help increase profits?  I don’t know!  And no one will until the night of the show. It’s exciting because there’s nearly an infinite amount of possibilities.

There will be several other elements of the story that the audience will help make up as well. The performers will be left with a random pile of suggestions. They will have to deftly weave those together, making nonsense into sense, and still making sure Scrooge learns his lesson. All of this will be recipe for hilarity and tons of fun.

The show only runs for four performances- December 12th, 13th, 19th, and 20th. It’s sure to be the funniest holiday show in town, so come on out and laugh with us.

Tickets: $8 for students/seniors/TLC Members and $10 general admission.   However, if you purchase your general admission tickets before December 12th, you will get the discounted price of $8.
