Double Plow Oatmeal Stout Brings Home the Gold!
The results are in and Tractor Brewing Company has brought home the gold to New Mexico from the Los Angeles International Beer Competition! The brewery’s Double Plow Oatmeal Stout won top honors in the Oatmeal Stout category for the April 2017 judging.
Josh Campbell, head brewer for Tractor Brewing Company, said, “I am pretty proud of this one. Anytime you can put your beer on the national stage and walkaway with a gold it makes you feel good. This is a beer we have work on for a very long time.”
Double Plow Oatmeal Stout is an earthy, thick malty beer with chocolate and dark roast malts, farm fresh rolled oats and all natural ingredients. Full bodied with a finish on the drier side of the palate (ABV 6.5, IBU 16). It is a year-round staple for Tractor Brewing Company and is always available at both their Nob Hill Tap Room and Wells Park Brewery locations.
The Oatmeal Stout styles has its roots in England where brewers would throw a handful of oats to their brews to produce a “health” beer for marketing purposes according to the BCJP. Today the oatmeal addition is more than symbolic and adds to the flavor and body of the beer.
This is the second year that Tractor Brewing Company has entered the competition. In 2016 Milk Mustachio Stout won a silver medal in the Sweet Stout category. Both Double Plow Oatmeal Stout and Milk Mustachio Stout are available through Premier Distributing Company and L&F Distributors.
