An adult spelling bee is basically just a public test to see which of us peaked in elementary school and who currently relies entirely on red squiggly lines in Microsoft Word to survive. Dust off your dictionary and channel your inner 5th-grade spelling champion! Whether you are a master of orthography or just looking for a hilariously good time, join us for an evening of high-stakes word mastery, stiff drinks, and fierce competition. The first 20 contestants to email cthomsen5280@gmail.com will compete Wednesday, November 11 (7-9pm). Interested contestants may compete in the future weekly Wednesday rounds. Additionally, each weekly event will include the prior week’s reigning champion. Single-elimination rounds escalate from easy to wildly tricky words. Need a lifeline? Ask for the definition, language of origin, or a sentence that utilizes the word. 1st and 2nd place prizes for the top two 2 champions each week, leading to the larger event competition showdown in the spring of all winning round champions with bragging rights and bigger prizes! Free to attend, 21+, bring a non-perishable food item as the end goal is a food drive for the Roadrunner Food Bank. Come watch grown adults sweat profusely while trying to figure out if ‘restaurant’ or ‘vacuum’ has a silent letter in it. Spell yeah!
